Admission FAQs

How do I apply to HTL?

Your application route into HTL depends on what point of entry you are applying for.

For routine entrance to the school at Reception, you will need to complete the Common Application Form for the borough in which you are resident. Applications are made electronically via your home borough's website and generally open on the 1st September each year and close on or around 15th January.

For parents who live in the London Borough of Bexley this can be found here

For parents who live within the county of Kent, including those in the Dartford and Wilmington area this can be found here

For parents who live within the London Borough of Bromley this can be found here

For parents who live within the Royal Borough of Greenwich this can be found here

If you are resident in another local authority, you can easily locate this information by searching for school admissions in the authority in which you live.

For routine entrance to the school at Nursery, you must apply to the school directly. Application forms are available from Janaury each year and the closing date is usually on or around 6th April. Exact details for the current year can be found on our admissions policy which you can view here.

To enter the school at any other point, (known as an in year admission) you can either contact the Bexley school admissions team directly on 02083037777 or the school office.

Don't I have to go to church to go to a church school?

No, in fact relatively few of our families do. Please click here to see the answers to some common questions about a church school education.

What is your 'catchment area' / Will I get in?

Technically there is no such thing as a 'catchment area' anymore. Schools admit children according to their oversubscription criteria which can be viewed on our admissions policy here. Children are admitted to the school in the order of the oversubscription criteria until all the places are filled. This naturally changes each year according to the number of children that apply but we typically draw from a wide area. Many of our pupils are local and equally, many of our children come from Orpington, Chislehurst, Dartford, Wilmington, Eltham and New Eltham, across the London Borough of Bexley and further afield.  If HTL is the school for you, there is a good chance we will be able to accommodate you.

 Can I visit the school?

For routine admission into Reception and Nursery tours are organised throughout the autumn and spring term respectively. You can view the dates for the year ahead here for Reception and here for nursery. If you can't make any of the dates then please do contact the office and we will do our very best to accommodate you at your convenience.

For 'in year admissions' visits are warmly welcomed and encouraged year round. Please contact the office to organise a tour at your convenience.

When will I be informed of whether my application has been successful?

For routine entry to Reception and Nursery National Offer Day is usually on or around 16th April.

For 'in year admissions' we can usually inform you immediately that we have a space available and are aware of your application.

Do you have a waiting list?

Some of our year groups are full and have a waiting list and others have spaces, meaning we can admit new pupils immediately. Please contact Mrs Liew in the school office who will be able to provide you with up to date information on the current waiting lists in each year group. Where there is a waiting list, places are allocated in accordance with our oversubscription criteria set out in the admissions policy. This means you won't necessarily join the end of the list if, for example, you already have a sibling in school or attend any place of worship regularly (including non christian worship). If you are on our waiting list you can contact the office at any time to find out where on the list you are. We seek to fill places as soon as they become available to ensure your wait is as minimal as possible.
